biography

At the operatic stage, Dutch mezzo soprano Rosanne van Sandwijk performed Cherubino in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, Dorabella in Mozarts Cosi fan tutte, Sesto in Händels Giulio Cesare, Annio in Mozart’s La clemenza di Tito, Hänsel in Humperdincks Hänsel und Gretel and Dido in Purcells Dido and Aeneas.


In 2011, Rosanne made her debut at Dutch National Opera in Glucks Iphigénie en Tauride under the baton of Marc Minskowski. She also appeared at DNO in Wagners Parsifal (Knappe and Blumenmädchen) with the Royal Concertgebouworchestra, conducted by Iwan Fischer.

She sang the alto part in Bach’s passions and cantata’s, and participated in the religious works of Mendelssohn, Haydn, Saint-Saens, Beethoven and Duruflé. Rosanne worked with conductors like Paul McCreesh, Jan Willem de Vriend, Daniel Reuss, Sir Collin Davis, Louis Langrée, Peter Dijkstra, Marc Minkowski and Iwan Fischer and with orchestra’s like the Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, het Orkest van het Oosten, Concerto d’Amsterdam, Camerata Salzburg, The Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra of the 18th Century, Les Musiciens du Louvre and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.


In 2009 Rosanne was Lauréat of the Académie Européenne de Musique in Aix-en-Provence. As Lauréat she gave several lied recitals in France.

Recently she also gave recitals in the Recital Hall of the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, with accompanists such as Malcolm Martineau, Julius Drake and fortepianist Kristian Bezuidenhout.


As finalist of the 48th edition of the International Vocal Competition 2010 Den Bosch Rosanne van Sandwijk won the Oratorio Prize, the Staetshuys Fonds Prize and an engagement at The Netherlands Opera.


In 2014, Rosanne was granted the Grachtenfestival Prize, which will give her the opportunity to sing concerts at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg and various concerts at the 2015 edition of the Grachtenfestival.


Future engagements include a tour of Händel opera recitals with Concerto Köln and the role of 2nd Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte in both Aix-en-Provence and The National Opera Amsterdam.


Between september 2013 and june 2015, Rosanne was a member of the ensemble of the opera of Kiel, Germany. She performed, among others, the roles of Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel - Humperdick), 2nd Lady (Die Zauberflöte - Mozart), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly - Puccini), Cybele (Atys - Lully), Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro - Mozart) and Olga (Yevgeni Onegin - Tshaikowsky)
